All right now, right off the bat: Does anyone remember the Sheridan play?

It was, among other things, a broadly witty send-up of the empty, misdirected, decadent and elitist attitudes of our blue-blooded betters. I say "our" figuratively, meaning all of us who don't have hereditary titles and diapers monogrammed with a crest and some really mean looking birds. I suppose you could say "our" literally if you are a 200-and-something-year-old working-class Cockney.

So anyway, for no better reason than the words "school" and "scandal" going together so nicely, and having a show-off-ish reference to an 18th century English play, you're through six sentences and nearly three paragraphs before you find out what so upsets me as to require such an elaborate warm-up: it's the government schools.

They're a scandal.

One size fits all?
Now let's agree up front that the only honest term for these sorry institutions is government schools or state schools; public schools, although it does claim the advantage of reminding one of public restrooms, seems to imply that the public at large actually has some influence on how affairs are conducted at these places or, as in a public restroom, can enter and exit freely. That would be a knee-slapper if it weren't a tear-jerker.

Fact is, so-called public schools are run by, well, the government! Of course, owing to the political realities of 21st century America, the state is in league with the unions, scores of them, as they cooperate in the micromanagement of our children's lives. Certainly there are many, many dedicated teachers and administrators (probably a few too many of the latter, frankly) who try to do their best for their schools and their charges. But isn't it quite clear, after fifty years of manic progressive education, that large chunks of several generations of students have exited the graduation ceremony with diplomas they could not read?

Dumb by design
And how could it not be by design? I don't mean to suggest a scheme from an episode of the "X-Files"; I do mean to suggest that not all of the experimentation done in the name of John Dewey to American schoolchildren in this century has had the aim of making them better informed and more critical thinkers. The mass dumbing-down of the last 50 years can't be blamed on Stalinist cliques and zealous cadres, however.

The movers and shakers in that long-term undertaking were intensely ideological individuals working through associations, conferences and both formal and informal networks. With like-thinking social engineers working in the schools, the teachers' colleges, the unions, the legislature and the media, we got cultural warfare long before we got the term for it.

This isn't crazy right-wing thinking anymore. In fact, come to think of it, since the fall of the Soviet Union a whole lot of things that used to be crazy right-wing thinking aren't crazy or even necessarily right-wing anymore. Like Alger Hiss being guilty. And the Rosenbergs. And the infiltration of Hollywood and the U.S. government through the 1930s, '40s and 50's (and...?). And, sadly, the Tuskegee experiments. The MK-Ultra programs. Waco and Ruby Ridge.

Here's a bumper sticker for you: CONSPIRACIES HAPPEN. I'm not a pack animal, so I don't subscribe to any single group's unified field theory of world domination, like the "insiders," the history of the hidden hand, the so-called protocols of some old robed conspirators, etc., etc. Neither do I discount everything these people have to say. (Don't many of us wonder about Korean Air Line Flight 007? And TWA 800? And then there's always Roswell for the folks who don't care about evidence at all.) Can't we simply agree that there will always be people around who are up to no good?

School choice
Over the past century, education has become a monstrous assault on the children of America. No more proof is needed that better educations are had at private schools, particularly faith-based ones. The verdict on education has been in for some time. But the vast power and resources of the federal and state governments, plus those of the teachers' unions, are arrayed against parents who fight in larger and larger numbers for choice in their children's education.

When schools are attended by willing students; when parents are full partners with teachers and administrators; when the marketplace inevitably supplies various kinds of institutions (religious, atheist, college-preparatory, trade-oriented, left-wing, right-wing and hot wing) for various constituencies (make that customers); when the one-size-fits-all mentality of the manic progressive educrats is consigned to the same dust bin that had plenty of room for that wasted old 74-year-old USSR, well, then the parents of this country can reclaim half the deed to their kids' minds and hearts.

Rotorua is a city is city in New Zealand located on the Northern Island. The Rotorua city is famous for the aroma it produces similar to the aroma of rotten eggs. Blogger integrates with Amazon Associates

arlier this year we simplified the process for monetizing your blog by adding a “Monetize” tab in the Blogger app. We started with AdSense, which allows you to add contextual advertising to your pages; more recently we added AdSense for Feeds to help you generate revenue from the distribution of your blog via RSS and Atom. Today we launched a third option: direct integration with Amazon Associates to search Amazon’s product catalog and add links to products that earn you commissions when your readers buy products you recommend.

With this feature, you can search Amazon directly from the Blogger editor and add pictures and links to Amazon products right into your posts. Your readers will earn you commissions whenever they buy the products you recommend, and if you don’t already have an Amazon Associates account, you can sign up for one for free without leaving Blogger.

If you’ve ever written a blog post about a book, recommended a gadget, or reviewed a toy you bought for your kids, you’ve likely gone through the process of drafting the post, opening up a separate window to go to find a site that sells the product, then going back to Blogger to paste the link to the product into the post editor.

Starting today, you can search the Amazon product catalog without leaving the Blogger interface and insert links to the products you find into your posts. Not only is the process of linking to products more efficient, but Amazon makes it easy for you to earn money whenever your readers actually buy the products you write about. This is known as an “affiliate program”, and it’s designed to let you recommend products you like to your audience — if they buy the product, you’ll earn a commission on that purchase. Now for the fun part: when you are writing a post on Blogger, you’ll see an Amazon gadget to the right of your post editor (the “Product Finder”). You can search the Amazon product catalog from within Blogger — type in the name of the product you are writing about, and insert a link to the product, an image of the product, or an iframe containing the image, price details and a “buy it now” button. Every link that’s created contains your unique Associates ID, ensuring that Amazon will credit you for any purchases that result from readers clicking the link on your blog.

If you’re an existing Amazon Associate, completing this setup simply makes the Product Finder available on Blogger for you — you continue to earn the same referral rate from Amazon. New Associates receive the same referral rate from Amazon that they would have received if they signed up directly. If you’re not interested in earning a referral, you can still install the Product Finder: from the “Amazon Associates” page under the Monetize tab, click “I'll do this later — show me more Amazon options” and then click “Add the Product Finder” button.

A quick note about trust: affiliate programs work well when readers trust you. You should avoid promoting products simply because of the referral fee you might earn — readers may lose some of that trust if they sense your posts exist solely to make you money. You may also want to disclose to your readers that you will earn a commission on their purchase — some readers even prefer knowing that you benefit from their business.

These are generally standardized devices like Cisco PIX or software based solutions like Checkpoint and Microsoft ISA. Some of the devices can also function as enablers of internet sharing.

Proxy servers are meant for internet sharing and hiding the internal users information like (IP Address) from the internet. Some proxies also function as firewalls. But that is not what they are designed for. A company which has a good firewall may not require a proxy. However, if a company is just sharing an internet connection on a server may want to use proxies, so that internal users can access the internet through the same connection using the proxy. Windows 2000 onwards provides an inbuilt feature called “Internet Connection Sharing” which can have the same functionality. Typically cyber cafes and similar sized / type setups use proxies.

Not really.

The objective of NAT is to enable 2-way communication with the internet of a machine which is not internet facing. For example, if you want to access your desktop computer from your home via broadband, how will you do it? Although you are connected to the internet from home and your office desktop is also connected to the internet through the default gateway. However, your office desktop computer has a private IP range (172.18.x.x) which is not recognized on the internet. So, there are 2 ways in which you could access your office desktop from home:

1) Connect your office desktop outside the router and let it get the public IP from the service provider. This will mean that only your office desktop will be able to access the internet and no one else will be able to access it (unless your office desktop is configured as a proxy server and everyone’s Internet Explorer is configured to use your office desktop as a proxy). With this arrangement, both your home computer and office computer have public IPs from the internet and hence you can connect as if you were on a LAN (not from the speed perspective).
2) The other option, is to let your office desktop continue using the intranet IP (172.18.x.x) and configure a NAT on the router / firewall. Basically, NAT will map an internet public IP to your office desktop’s internal IP. So let’s say, the public IP configured to NAT is 1.2.3.4 and your office desktop IP is 172.18.2.5. Now, you can connect to your office desktop from your home using the IP 1.2.3.4 (still not your internal IP 172.18.2.5). When this request hits the router / firewall, they will know that the IP requested (1.2.3.4) is meant from your office desktop (172.18.2.5) and it will route the packets accordingly.

I would like to add something on the Proxy servers,
Proxy servers are used for internet sharing.
In other words , if we start looking at proxy servers from OSI model, these servers work in Application layer. When we talk about firewall, we are dealing with network layer and below.
That’s the main difference between Proxy servers and firewalls.
Proxy servers only deals with internet sharing, when we setup a proxy server we can have a excellent control on internet usage for internal users and that’s the reason why we see proxy servers in net cafes.
Proxy servers also cache internet contents and when any users requests same, it just picks from cache and shows to the user.
(this is another sign that Proxy servers work in Application layer)
Also in many environments we see that proxy is setup and Network admin configures group policies for Proxy servers ( under internet explorer settings
